BXO now releases the new service IAC - Interactive Alarm Control. With IAC, the flow of alarms is made more efficient, and functionality for interactive process control is added.
IAC is an extension of Pager, the alarm management service which has received attention in applications ranging from elderly care to steel industry. While real-time mobile alarm management cuts important seconds off the alarm handling chain, the new interactive functionality within the concept of IAC, improves the efficency by allowing additional optimization of the use of resources.
IAC provides the client with a new tool, allowing them to design menus for the phones, tailored to their requirements. Every alarm sent to the phone may include a unique menu structure. Possible applications can be starting or stopping processes, forwarding alarms, marking an alarm as being worked on, or register causes and actions. With IAC, you can build easy-to-use mobile interfaces for advanced functions.

"I'll handle this alarm"
With a few quick keystrokes, the user can mark an alarm as being worked on. This marking means that the alarm that used to be on the top of the list of every phone now turns grey and is put at the bottom of the list. This is a way to let everyone else know that you're taking responsibility for responding to the alarm, thus avoinding that everybody responds to the same alarm.
In case the alarm still is not cleared in time, it will return to its previous state.
Escalation
In order to further reduce the risk that multiple people responds to the same alarm, you can use escalation. This means that an active alarm is not shown on all mobiles at the same time. As time goes by, the alarm is escalated and displayed on more and more phones, until somebody either clears it or marks it as being worked on.
"I won't handle this alarm"
In case a user is busy with something that prevents him or her from responding to an alarm, they can escalate it manually - in other words, say that somebody else needs to deal with it. The escalation functionality immediately sends the alarm to the next person in the alarm handling chain.
Open the door and kill the fan
IAC is not only useful for alarm management - it is also a tool for remote control of all kinds of equipment and function. For instance, you can open and close doors, start and stop fans, pumps, feeders or anything else that can be electrically controlled.
